Monday 22/04

We slept until 11:00 AM and then went to dinner on the other side of the river Zêzere which runs through Constância. The restaurant had a nice view of the city. Then we went back to the other side and we went to the festivities of the Municipality. We saw the blessing of the boats and a procession through Constância. Later we went to eat a typical Portuguese chorizo-sandwich and then we went back. At 00:00 there were beautiful fireworks show to celebrate the end of Easter.

An annual event that draws many people to Constância are the Festivals of Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem (Our Lady of the Safe Journey),  with the streets adorned with coloured paper and enlivened by the many small bars and restaurants that are scattered around the town. The high point of this festival is on Easter Monday, when there is a blessing of decorated boats.  The Blessing of the boats is a tradition that began centuries ago in Mediterranean fishing communities. The practice was predominantly Catholic, but is now practiced by all Christians as a blessing from the local priest and pastors that is meant to ensure a safe and bountiful season. On the picture you can see some off the decorated

Tuesday 23/04

We saw the school for the first time. You can see it is totally different from ours. The primary school and secondary school are all together. In our school almost everyone eats at school but here there were only 30 students who ate at school. In the afternoon we saw a lot of fish. After that we watched a movie with virtual reality glasses. In the evening we ate a typical fish with the family. That was really cosy!

Wednesday 24/04

We started our day with a “Peddypaper", we call it a city game. We walked through all the streets of Constância and we saw a lot of hidden spots in the small city. We went to a museum but it turns out that it's actually the house of the men who opened the door for us. We couldn't touch anything because of the fact that al the objects are property of them.
The city of Constância has a lot of hills and stairs so we trained the muscels of our legs. When the Portugese students were in Belgium, I didn't understand why they don't go to school by bike, but now I totally understand. The hills are so steep, that I sometimes think the cars are not going to make it till the end of the street, and most of the students live far away from the school. For lunch we had a “walking dinner" with a lot of different snacks. For example chips, mini pizza, mini croissants, cake... Afterwards we enjoyed the cosy time at school. For lunch we went to a science center and we learned some things about the planets and the stars. We could see the stars of the night of the 25th of April and the guide told us much about the stars and zodiacs. To end the day we could try some things out to test if you could be a pilot of the warplanes. We really enjoyed the day!

Thursday 25/04

On thursday we were out to visit Lisbon, a city with many faces. We saw nice neighbourhoods where we visited Mosteiro dos Jerónimos. It is a nice little church with a lot of graves but the two who are the cream of the crop are Camoes, a famous poet in the region and Vasco Da Gama who doesnt need an introduction. In the poorer neighbourhood we visited the castle of saint George. But wherever we were the people of Portugal were always really caring and nice, they are the kindest and we will miss
